L'appellation Côte Roannaise s’étend sur les premiers contreforts du Massif central, entre 400 et 500 mètres d’altitude. Ce vignoble est installé sur des sols sableux d’origine granitique. Le cépage rouge local est le gamay saint-romain, que l’on trouve seulement ici. Le blanc, en IGP d’Urfé, provient du chardonnay, parfois du pinot gris. Georges Paire, issu d’une famille d’éleveurs, commence à planter son vignoble dans les années 1970. En 2005, son fils Romain le rejoint et les plantations continuent, le cuvage est modernisé et l’exploitation se tourne vers la culture biologique. Aujourd’hui, le domaine conserve un petit élevage de vaches limousines. Nous apprécions ces vins soignés et sincères : une incarnation moderne et dynamique de l'appellation.

La cuvée La Chapelle du domaine des Pothiers est issue d'une parcelle de 4ha de vignes de Gamay Saint Romain plantées sur des sols granitiques sur une butte à 520m d'altitude. Vendanges manuelles avec tri à la vigne. 11 mois en cuve tronconique bois et foudres. Le nez de ce vin nous révèle de délicieuses notes de fruits rouges croquants, de fraises des bois, de framboises, de cassis et d'épices douces. La bouche est ample et soyeuse grâce à un remarquable équilibre entre élégance du fruit, finesse des tannins et fraicheur du terroir.
